Aceh Earthquake are Twin

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - An earthquake in Aceh Province Nangroe Darussalam, Wednesday (11/04/2012) afternoon, it was not a main quake followed by numerous aftershocks. The series of earthquakes that are the two major earthquakes.
"The earthquake quake actually twins yesterday. So there are two major earthquakes," said Danny Hilman Natawijaya, geologists and palaeotsunami of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI).
The first quake occurred at 15:38 pm with the strength of 8.5 on the Richter scale. Epicenter at a depth of 10 km, is 346 km southwest Simeuleu.
The second earthquake occurred at 17:43 pm with the strength of 8.1 on the Richter scale. Epicenter of the quake had a depth of 10 km and is 483 km southwest of Simeulue. "The location of the epicenter, both are close together, all based outside the subduction zone," Danny said when contacted Kompas.com, Thursday (12/04/2012).
As a result of two earthquakes that occurred yesterday, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) issued an early warning of potential tsunamis. Tsunami warning ended at 19:45 pm.
The tsunami did occur after the first major earthquake, though small in intensity. Based on the information BMKG, occurred in Meulaboh tsunami as high as 80 cm at 17.00 and as high as 6 cm in Sabang at 17:04.
Tsunami great earthquake did not occur because more triggered by fault movement side (oblique) and outside of subduction zones. Tsunamis can occur when the center of the earthquake in a subduction zone and a vertical fault movement. Until now, there have been 28 aftershocks caused by two earthquakes that occurred yesterday.
